About This Item:
While recording Mind Games in the early 1970’s at Record Plant Studios in New York City, John Lennon often called the studio team “the greeting committee”, as a term of endearment. Loving the new nickname, the team gifted Lennon “The Greeting Committee” tee, which he was often seen in, and photographed wearing on the street in 1976.
Born October 9, 1940, John Lennon is maybe best remembered for his work as a singer and songwriter of the Beatles. Lennon formed his first band, the Quarrymen, in 1957 to play songs of the skiffle craze taking Liverpool at the time. Lennon and later additions to the Quarrymen George Harrison and Paul McCartney soon split off and formed the first version of the Beatles with future "fifth Beatle" Stuart Sutcliffe on bass. But after leaving the Beatles in 1969, Lennon pursued his own solo career. His work veered into the more political and hopeful with tracks like "Imagine" and "Happy Xmas (War is Over)." He also became more boldly associated with sit-ins and other protests of the Vietnam War, undertaken with wife Yoko Ono. Despite his death in 1980, Lennon is still remembered worldwide as a voice for peace.
